Center for Transformative Education
The Center for Transformative Education is a new educational initiative that offers empowering educational programs to help transform societies into their potential. Utilizing the expertise that Abraham's Vision has gained in the fields of experiential education and conflict transformation since their establishment in 2003, our programs' goals are to educate students about social relations between communities, including issues such as social inequalities and power relations, and to empower students to mobilize their communities to practice just alternatives to the status quo. In the next few years we are focusing on two training programs that prepare students to work with groups in conflict: a facilitation training course (January) and a comparative conflict analysis and transformation course (June and July of 2010). CTE’s educational models are rooted in western and local-cultural methodologies of working with groups in conflict, thereby creating a groundbreaking organic model of facilitation that can be used in any conflict setting.

First Facilitation Course a Success!

In January 2009, the Center for Transformative Education launched its first ever Facilitation Training course at Columbia University and the University of San Francisco. Eighteen students graduated from our introductory training courses.

The course particpants at both sites were invited to actively discuss the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the tenor of which gradually intensified. After engaging in a group process, participants were introduced to various concepts of facilitation by the course leaders, renown experts in the conflict transformation field: Ahmad Amara, Dror Post, and the course supervisor, Ahmad Hijazi, the Director of the acclaimed School for Peace in Neve Shalom/Wahat al-Salam. Because of the overwhelming success of these courses we are exploring new venues and dates for the course. Check back soon for more information.
